Looking beyond academia at the Seafood Expo Global

One of the events that surprised me the most this year was the Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, and I’m truly glad I had the chance to attend.

As a young scientist wrapping up my PhD research and already thinking about the next steps in my career, this event gave me a perspective outside the academic world, a window into the industry and technological innovations connected to seafood and the environment.

Since I’m not particularly drawn to continuing in academia, I could really picture myself contributing to more sustainable seafood, ocean, and environmental systems from a hands-on, industry perspective. The expo was an incredible space to exchange ideas, learn what’s happening in the wider world, and make new connections across the seafood sector.

I especially enjoyed the insightful conversations around innovation in digital traceability, a topic right at the heart of my PhD research.
