A visit to the classroom

I was truly challenged when the Centro de Ciência Viva de Lagos - an interactive space dedicated to sharing science - invited me to talk with children and teenagers about what I do, what being a scientist means, and, even more difficult, what seafood traceability is.
It felt much scarier than speaking to other scientists or experts because I had to simplify these complex topics while also capturing the attention of a younger audience.
By the end of the day, though, it turned out to be incredibly rewarding. I met curious and engaged students who asked genuine questions about the ocean, some I hadn’t thought about in years. Their open minds and dreams for the future felt like a blank canvas, full of possibility.
It was truly a wonderful experience.
